BORN 1963 IN GERMANY
Living in Hamburg & Berlin / Germany
”In 1981 Alfred Steffen visited a Helmut Newton exhibition in Bonn with his sister just to encounter the artist himself standing in front of him in sneakers and an old pair of Jeans surrounded by what he describes as "the hottest chicks of the Rhineland".
It was in this moment that Steffen knew he wanted to become a photographer.
His work includes portraits of hundreds of celebrities including the Beastie Boys, Prince, Laurie Anderson, author Douglas Coupland and former German cancellors Willy Brandt and Gerhard Schröder, as well as a variety of well-known actors.
Apart from his acclaimed portrait work, he is also passionate about photography documenting social and political issues. This includes photographic studies of drug addicts, children in Rwanda, moments captured in the toilets of a trendy nightclub and the madness of German folk music fanatics.“
